Bio
A graduate of the University of Arizona MFA program, she has exhibited widely in museums, galleries, and non-profit and alternative art spaces. Solo exhibitions include “Sweet Nothing” in Tucson, “Some Small Desire” in Washington DC, and “Remember to Call: Portraits of Post-Adolescent Anxiety” in Newark, Delaware. Her work is in collections in New York, Washington DC, Tucson, Virginia, Delaware, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. In 2006 she took up a traditional tattoo apprenticeship and has been working at Black Rose Tattooers ever since. She continues to teach at the college level and contributes illustrations, writing, and photography to various publications.
Amy Shapiro grew up outside of Washington DC and was influenced by both its easy access to museums and the riot grrrl music and activism scene.
